The Surgeon Generals Report
“The Surgeon General has determined that lack of physical activity is detrimental to your health.”
-The Surgeon General Of The United States, July 11, 1996
The Surgeon General’s report, Physical Activity and Health, is a compilation of 30 years of research relating the benefits of wellness programs, regular exercise, and the harmful effects of sedentary living. The report stresses that regular moderate physical activity can help prevent a multitude of health problems, such as cardiovascular disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, obesity, and adult-onset diabetes.
This report comes at a pivotal time because healthcare costs are increasing at an alarming rate, representing an ever-increasing portion of the gross national product (GNP). In 1973, medical costs were $247 billion and had climbed to approximately $1 trillion by the end of 1993. Corporate America paid an estimated 30-40% of that $1 trillion in healthcare costs.
Body Wellness® has since 1989 offered a variety of on-site physical activity programs. Our classes can easily be scheduled before, during or after work. Employees report feeling refreshed, vital and ready to addresses the challenges of the business day.
Healthier employees positively impact the corporate bottom line, e.g., lower healthcare costs, improved employee morale, lower turnover rates, improved productivity, reduced absenteeism, and a decrease in medical claims, are just a few of the benefits realized. The statistics show that companies can save hundreds of thousands of dollars by investing in their employee’s health; in so doing they are directly investing in the fiscal wellness of the corporation as well. This is obviously a solution, which benefits all.
A variety of programs are available with new ones always on the way. Samplings of programs include: "Aerobic Walking", "Tai Chi", "Yoga", "Pilates", "Weight Training", "Aerobic Dance", "Martial Arts" and many others.
"All parts of the body which have a function and if used in moderation and exercised, become thereby healthy, well developed and age more slowly, but if unused they become liable to disease, defect in growth and age quickly." ~ Hippocrates
